We have created an inviting space where everyone can connect, enjoy a delicious meal, and be part of a movement towards a more inclusive society. We welcome you to join us in this journey as we strive to build a better future together.

At Ada's Cafe, we are committed to the belief that good food and community go hand in hand.

The Three C’s of Ada’s Cafe

COMMUNITY VALUES

Community values sit at the heart of Ada's Cafe. We strive to foster an environment that goes beyond simply serving individuals. Our aim is to create a space where people can come together, connect, and build meaningful relationships. Whether you're a regular customer or a first-timer, we want you to feel a sense of belonging and community when you step through our doors. We take pride in building connections and enhancing the social fabric of our neighborhood.

COMPASSIONATE EMPLOYMENT

Compassionate employment is another integral part of our work. We strongly believe in providing equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, allowing them to thrive and develop into their full potential. We offer comprehensive work programs - tailored to the specific needs of our employees. By investing in their growth and success, we empower our mission-based employees to achieve their personal & professional goals. In turn, they are valuable assets to our community and workforce.

COMMERCIAL SUCCESS

A core value is commercial success. We believe that running a successful business is crucial because it allows us to maintain our mission’s focus and continue making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve. By delivering exceptional quality in our offerings - we aim to dispel any stereotypes about subpar quality and disabilities.

Our Story

As the mother of twins with disabilities, Kathleen wanted to create opportunities to empower her children, as well as their classmates and future students who would need independent life skills post- high school.

As her one son, Charlie, started middle school - Kathleen was inspired to set up a cafe which taught baking and life skills to students with special needs. She continued on her mission at Charlie’s high school, where she set up a cafe run collaboratively by students in the special education class, alongside their mainstreamed high school peers.

Ada’s grew out of Kathleen’s own life experiences. As a chef, mother, and community advocate, she has poured her heart into creating a place where everyone feels valued and supported. Her passion for helping adults from all walks of life find purpose and pride in their work shines through in everything she does. Kathleen feels deeply honored to be part of their growth and to share in their success.

Two Meanings, One Name

Grandma Ada was the grandmother of Kathleen’s childhood friend. Grandma Ada’s kitchen was a place where neighborhood kids gathered to share whatever delicious food was being made. Kathleen strives to recreate that warm and welcoming atmosphere at Ada’s Café.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) is the landmark legislation passed in 1990 that prohibits disability discrimination and ensures equal opportunities for people with disabilities in employment, and other important areas of daily life.
